The Obstacles’ Beaconing is installed in the upper part and in the body of the structures (towers, bridges, buildings, chimneys, cranes, etc.) that allow the aircraft to be warned of the presence of such obstacles in low visibility conditions to avoid collisions.

The beacons comply with international regulations, both ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) and FAA (Federal Aviation Administration).

The regulations indicate, depending on the structure, the beaconing levels that should exist as well as the number and type of beacons per level.

In abbreviated form the rules to follow are (it is recommended to consult us specifically for each beaconing) for the beaconing of a structure are:

H < 45 m A low-intensity beacons’ level in the upper part of the structure
45 m < H < 105 m Two beacons’ level: medium intensity at the top and low intensity at ½ H.
105 m < H < 210 m Four beacon’s levels: medium intensity at the top, ¾ H low intensity, ½ H medium intensity, ¼ H low intensity.

 

And the number of beacons per level depends on the dimensions in plan of the structure:

Day/Night Detectors

High-voltage lines, often suspended between high-voltage towers a considerable distance apart, represent an obstacle for low-rise flights. This requires the installation of a specific type of beacons in addition to those installed on the self-supported towers. A simple and economical solution is the installation of signaling beacons on the high voltage distribution cables themselves.

The signaling beacon of high voltage lines is fed by the transported power over one of the high voltage cables. This solution is based on the Faraday’s Law  principle of the induced power by the magnetic field that flows on the conductor line itself.

The Clampco beacon complies with ICAO Standard Type B / FAA L-810 (> 32 cd) and can be installed on high voltage lines up to:

HV cable diameter: from 10 to 38 mm
HV line voltage: Up to 440 kV
